A Walk Through Annapolis
2008 - 2009
Let's take a walk around Annapolis and Eastport (over the Spa Creek bridge). We will get to see boats, boats, and more boats, the Eastport Rockin celebration, part of the boat show, the Naval Academy, and some general scenery along the way. Since I am a slow walker these photos were taken over a two year period.
We will begin with the Stanley Norman, one of the few remaining skipjacks that is now managed by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and is mooored at the City Dock. Our next stop is up the hill to the state capitol building. There we are told that a sailboat race is under way and if we hurry on down to the seawall at the Naval Academy we can watch part of the race. By the way, the Sultana is in town and is currently moored at the CIty Dock.
While wandering around in the area of the dock, we notice a large number of dinghys from cruising folks who have come to town and moor their boats out and take their dinghys into town.
Since we have to walk past the gate to the Naval Academy, we decide to take a side trip to visit the Academy and the Chapel.
After leaving the Naval Academy we decide to cross Spa Creek to walk around Eastport for a while. Whoops, the drawbridge is up and we have to wait. This gives us a chance to ogle the large yachts at the Annapolis Yacht Club.
Finally the boats have passed under the bridge and the draw closes so we can continue on our way. First we spot a Smart Car dealer, aren't they cute?
Next we arrive at the site of the Eastport Rockin festival with music, entertainment and numerous vendors.
Could this be a local politician?
Eastport has some quaint houses and shops but is not quite the same as Key West.
Back across the creek and into Annapolis again. We stop at Middletons for some much needed food.
What else can you do while in Annapolis? Well, you can wash your boat. Why not?
My feet are sore so it is time to take a break. Stay tuned for page 2 of our walk.
